Fuel Filters

Fuel is the lifeblood of your vehicle - so keeping it clean is important - SNJ Tyres and Mechanical understands that the quality of what's fuelling your system affects its overall performance. You can count on us for dependable servicing of your fuel system in Southport and surrounding areas.

For reliable vehicle operation and best performance, a clean and working fuel filter is critical. The fuel filter is the fuel system's foremost line of defence against the dirt, debris and small particles of rust that flake off the inside of the fuel tank.

If not caught by the filter, these particles can clog the carburettor. In fuel injected engines, they can clog the injector inlet screens and starve the injector for fuel. With diesel engines, clean fuel is especially important because they have a very small tolerance inside the injection pump.

Here at SNJ Tyres and Mechanical in Southport we follow the manufacturer's guidelines for each individual vehicle when it comes to fuel filter checks and replacements, and although the general rule is to replace them around every 40,000kms - we do recommend once yearly fuel filter replacement as a good way to prevent fuel-related problems and to keep your vehicle in its best performance state.

A poorly performing fuel filter will cause:

  • Poor fuel economy.
  • Higher running costs.
  • Reduced fuel supply to injectors.
  • Reduced engine power.
  • Poor acceleration or breakdown.
  • Reduced engine performance.
